FUOYE Resumes Academic Activities After 8 weeks
After eight weeks that the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, was shutdown by its management, academic activities are set to resume to complete the 2019/2020 academic session in the institution.
TVC reported on Wednesday that the university was set to resume session after it was shut down indefinitely in September.
But FUOYE’s management has insisted that student’s union activities in the university remained banned.
The management of FUOYE had earlier banned student unionism in the institution after a violent protest by the students over poor power supply.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kayode Soremekun, who condemned the protest in a statement, announced the school’s closure and banned the Student’s Union till further notice.
Vehicles belonging to the convoy of Ekiti State’s First Lady were said to have been damaged during one of the protests, resulting in a face-off between the students and police. The incident led to the killing of two students of the institution by the Ekiti First Lady’s security aides.
