Ganduje’s Aide Slams Buhari: ‘I’ve Never Seen Govt With Zero Empathy Like Yours’

Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a media aide to Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly showing “zero empathy” to the plight of Nigerians whenever the need arose.

Yakasai, who is popularly known as Dawisu on Twitter, was reacting to the ongoing nationwide protest by Nigerians calling for the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

His reaction came a day after the police allegedly shot a young man, Jimoh Isiaq, during the protest against alleged extra-judicial killings, extortion and rights abuse by SARS operatives.

Yakasai said, “I’ve never seen a government with zero empathy like that of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The Kano governor’s aide lamented that President Buhari had constantly failed to show emphaty with the citizens and would often wait to be begged to do so when things were wrong in the country.

“So many times when his people are going through a difficult time and expect some sort of tap on shoulder to reassure them that he is in charge, but he failed to do so. The ‘i don’t care attitude ‘ is on another level

“To speak to your own people over issues that are bedevilling them has become something like a favour you’re doing to them. Over and over again, you cannot spare 5mins and address the nation to calm them down, the same people u went to the 36 states to beg for their votes, it’s heartbreaking.”

Yakasai, in a subsequent tweet, charged Nigerians to never let themselves be boxed to a corner where they would not be able to speak for the oppressed because of political affiliation or “tempory” privilege.

He said, “Whatever you do in life, make sure you never lose ur voice. Speak up against injustice, speak up against inaction, speak up for what u believe in, demand for ur right and never let a temporary position or privilege stop you from standing with the people. Enough is enough!”

Meanwhile, THE WHISTLER reported earlier that President Buhari had broken his silence on the EndSARS protests after coming under intense criticisms from Nigerians who faulted him for not speaking up.

The president, in a tweet on Thursday, said: “I met again with the IGP tonight. Our determination to reform the police should never be in doubt. I am being briefed regularly on the reform efforts ongoing to end police brutality and unethical conduct, and ensure that the Police are fully accountable to the people.

“The IG already has my firm instructions to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses, & ensure erring personnel are brought to justice. I appeal for patience & calm, even as Nigerians freely exercise their right to peacefully make their views known.

“The vast majority of men and women of the Nigeria Police Force are patriotic and committed to protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians, and we will continue to support them to do their job.”
