Gov Otti Flags Off Reconstruction Of Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, on Wednesday fulfilled a key campaign promise by officially launching the long-awaited rehabilitation of the 67-kilometer Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road. The event, witnessed by THE WHISTLER, was met with cheers and excitement from the people of Ohuhu and Ibeku in Umuahia North, marking another significant step in Governor Otti’s infrastructural development push within the state.

“This road has been a major pain point for our people for far too long. But today, I stand before you to assure you that this rehabilitation project is not just a promise, it’s a commitment. We are determined to deliver a high-quality, two-lane asphaltic concrete carriageway with improved drainage and safety features, and we will do it within six months.

“We awarded the first section of the road to Craneburg Construction Limited because of their track record of delivering quality jobs. There would be strict supervision of road rehabilitation from the engineers of the Ministry of Works Umuahia,” the Governor said.

The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Otti, provided a detailed breakdown of the project, stating, “The rehabilitation will involve repairing failed sections, constructing new drainage systems, and overlaying the entire road with fresh asphalt. We’ve awarded the project to three different contractors with proven track records, like Craneburg Construction Limited for the first section, to ensure efficiency and quality control. My team of engineers will be closely monitoring progress to guarantee adherence to specifications and timely completion.”

Governor Otti emphasized the urgency of the project, highlighting its potential to revitalize the local economy.

“This road is not just about connecting communities; it’s about unlocking economic opportunities. By making it easier for people and goods to move freely, we can attract businesses, create jobs, and boost prosperity throughout the region. We’ve lost precious time due to the road’s current condition, but we’re determined to recover it and deliver progress quickly,” he said.
