Gov Umahi Grants EndSARs Protesters Requests, Orders Resumption Of Tertiary Institutions In Ebonyi

The governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David Umahi, has ordered tertiary institutions in the state to resume academic activities in fulfillment of the request of #EndPoliceBrutalities protesters.

He also ordered the immediate removal of all police checkpoints in the state.

The governor stated this when he addressed the protesters who besieged the Government House, Abakalili. The protesters had blocked the entrance to the Ebonyi Government House for three days, between 10am and 4pm daily. Among their demands were the investigation of police activities at Ekeaba Division, Abakaliki Local Government Council of the state, and the prosecution of the offenders.

Gov Umahi, while addressing the protesters, Monday, said his administration would compensate victims of police brutalities in the state, as well as collaborate with the National Human Rights Commission to ensure justice for all.

He said, “Hence, all tertiary institutions in Ebonyi State have been directed to resume effective teaching and learning on Wednesday, October 21. The state government will sack any lecturers and workers who disobey the directive. Further, the state government will synergise with the police and the army to dismantle all road blocks in the state.”

He said residents should resist extortion by calling him directly on his phone, adding that, “We shall establish an eight-man judicial panel of investigation, victims’ support fund, special security and human rights committee and human rights complaints office.”
