Troops Kill Two Bandits In Nasarawa

The Defence Headquarters said on Tuesday that two bandits were killed after troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE had contact with the criminals around Kango and Adumata villages in Nasarawa State.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, John Enenche, stated that the incident took place on 18 October while the troops were on patrol around the villages.

Enenche said during the contact, several of the bandits escaped with gunshot wounds.

He added that one AK47 rifle, one locally made rifle, 6 AK47 magazines, 110 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and assorted drugs were recovered from them.

One of the bandits killed.

The spokesman said: “In continuation of reinvigorated efforts to stamp out banditry and other criminal activities in the country, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralised 2 armed bandits in Nasarawa State.

“The Joint Force while on patrol on 18 October 2020 around Kango and Adumata villages came in contact with a group of armed bandits leading to exchange of fire.

“The gallant troops overwhelmed the bandits thereby neutralizing 2 while others escaped with gunshots wounds. Troops recovered one AK47 rifle, one locally made rifle, 6 AK47 magazines, 110 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and assorted drugs.”

Banditry is a regular occurrence in Nasarawa and other states in the north central region of the country, which usually leaves in its wake, severe bloodbath.

Recall that on September 14th, bandits had attacked the convoy of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), killing two and abducted 10 others.

The convoy, which was headed for the FRSC Academy in Udi, was said to have come under attack around 8am at Udege junction, along Mararaban-Udege in Nasarawa state.
