An anti-corruption movement, The Integrity Group, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop “picking on” the immediate-past first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

The group in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Livingstone Wechie, advised the president to stay clear Mrs Patience, urging him to instead probe Nigeria’s former first ladies and their aides.

Wechie said, “No Nigerian under any law, including Patience Jonathan is under any obligation to explain how he/she made his/her money.

“If the EFCC thinks anybody stole money, they should by evidence show how and wherefrom the money was stolen.

“The cumulative value of the monies in the Skye Bank account that Mrs Jonathan claims is less than $10 million. The report credited to the EFCC that the monies were in excess of $30 million is completely false, malicious and misleading and this is deliberate. The EFCC is challenged to provide public evidence of its claim of $31 million lodged in Skye Bank.

“this attack on Patience and Goodluck Jonathan may spark up avoidable security problems in the old Eastern Nigeria and we are willing to support Mr President in averting same.

“As such, our message is, arrest and prosecute all former first families including their aides and seize all their assets and money or leave Goodluck and Patience Jonathan alone and restore all their seized assets”.

Similarly, the Forum of Niger Delta Clan Chiefs and Elders, accused the former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi of being responsible for a gang-up against ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan.

The group in a statement released to the media by spokesman, Chief Comewell Derioteidou, said, “Our people will not fold our arms and watch the good name of Jonathan destroyed by politicians.

“We have heard all sorts of amounts being bandied in the media against Jonathan’s wife and wonder why Abacha’s wife, YarAdua’s wife and the others who have universities in their name are not being subjected to the same scrutiny.

“Why is Jonathan being picked on? What are they afraid of? Did he not leave them with the power? It portents danger for everyone. Crisis in the Niger Delta at this time of economic downturn is grave crisis for Nigeria. It is high time the attacks are put to an end. Amaechi and his buccaneers must know that they are not unknown to our people.”
