I Have Not Seen My Son Since 2007 When Police Arrested Him – Mother Tells Rivers Panel Of Inquiry

A traumatized mother on Friday narrated how her son was arrested when he went to watch a football match in his friend’s house in Ogbunabali, Port Harcourt, in 2007 but has not been seen ever since.

The woman, Mrs. Patience Mbang, who said the incident happened on September 20th, 2007 testified today at the ongoing Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry on alleged acts of violence, torture, brutality, murder and violation of fundamental human rights of citizens by men of the Nigeria Police.

Mrs. Mbang told THE WHISTLER that her missing son, Andrew Mbang, was arrested and taken to Olu Obasanjo Police Station and the arresting officer was one Supol Bassey.

“I have not set eyes on my son since that day. I have lived with the trauma all my life. They didn’t let me see my son, at a point they starting making fun of me and dribbling me around.

“Most mothers know the pain to bear a child, yet his life was ended just like that. I want justice done on that officer that was in charge of the case, Supol Bassey.

“I also want the Police to pay my family compensation because we have suffered severe hardship as a result of my late son’s absence.

“If he was alive I know I would not have suffered too long. He would have taken care of me by now.” she cried.
