ICPC Yet To Prove Itself In Fight Against Corruption – Chairman

Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Bolaji Owasanoye has said the agency was yet to prove itself in the fight against corruption in the country.

Owasanoye stated this during the year 2020 retreat organised for the Board and Management staff of ICPC recently held in Abuja.

ICPC is charged with the responsibility to receive and investigate complaints from members of the public on allegations of corrupt practices and in appropriate cases, prosecute the offenders. It also has the mandate to examine the practices, systems and procedures of public bodies and where such systems aid corruption, to direct and supervise their review.

According to the ICPC boss, the accolade from the public that the agency was doing well is good one, but given his expectations, “the commission was yet to prove itself.”

He therefore emphasized the need for the Board and staff to collectively join hands to work together in achieving the commission’s mandate, adding that for the agency to continue to record successes in its fight against corruption, they must continue to pursue the cause with vigour.

He also tasked the staff of the commission to put national interest above self in order to continue to win the fight against corruption in the country.
