IGP Warns Police Operatives Against Use Of Force On Protesters

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has issued warning to police operatives at all levels on the use of force on peaceful protesters.

The IGP noted in a statement on Thursday that citizens have fundamental rights of freedom of expression, assembly and movement and such rights should be upheld, adding that protesters deserve protection.

The warning issued by the IGP is coming after a spate of brutality against EndSARs protesters in parts of the country.

Nonetheless, Adamu appealed to protesters to continually conduct themselves peacefully, and “guide their ranks against infiltrations by criminal elements”.

Stressing that the Force has “clearly heard the voice of the people”, Adamu said it is “irrevocably committed to doing everything within its powers to address the observed ills, punish any offending officers and promote a people-friendly police force”.
