Illegal Possession: Surrender Your Firearms Now Or Face Consequences -Force HQ

The Nigeria Police Force has once again called on those in possession of illegal firearms across the country to voluntarily surrender them or face the consequences of non-compliance.

The call comes days after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, ordered a clamp down on proliferation of illegal firearms in the country.

The directive comes as part of preparations toward the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo States.

Adamu said the order became necessary against the backdrop of the “deliberate arming and movement of political thugs and other criminal elements across the country.”

He also said the directive is targeted at addressing the proliferation and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms in the country, which is contrary to the provisions of Chapter F.28 LFN 2004 of the Firearms Act.

A picture statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Department said: “If you are not authorized to use it, why in possession of these firearms? Voluntarily surrender them or we will come after you.”
