Putin said this during his annual world news conference on Thursday.

Recall that the US House of Representatives had impeached Trump for alleged abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, but the outcome is dependent on the Senate’s trial which is largely controlled by Republicans.

Putin expressed optimism that the impeachment of Trump would not lead to his conviction in the Senate.

“Republican lawmakers are unlikely to want to drive out of power a representative of their own party,” he said.

Speaking about the nation’s rift with Ukraine, he said he was shocked to hear that the Ukraine Minsk agreements on the issues in the Donbas region should be changed, adding that a gas trade deal was possible.

The Minsk agreements was an agreement to stop the war in the Donbass region of Ukraine, signed by representatives of Ukraine, the Russian Federation, the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), and the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR).

But Bloomberg reports that Putin said any bid to re-open so-called Minsk peace accord with Ukraine struck in 2015 will mean “we end up in a total dead-end.”

Ukraine had signed an agreement with pro-Russia separatists allowing for local elections to be held in eastern Ukraine.

But President Zelenskiy said that Ukraine would only allow local election in the area when it regains control of the borders.

The Russian leader also refuted the claim that human activity is the main cause of global warming; he said that climate change is affected by planetary processes.

However, he pledged that nation will also fight it.

Russia is massively involved in oil and gas exports and is the world’s fourth-largest carbon emitter.

The United Nations had reported that one of the causes of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels which is also derived from carbon.
