INSECURITY: CAN Reacts To Kaduna Pupils’ Abduction, Says Buhari Has Lost Grip On Nigeria

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Tuesday, has reacted to the kidnap of over 120 pupils of Bethel Baptist College, Kaduna by bandits on July 5.

AFP quoted a teacher in the school as saying that “the kidnappers took away 140 students, only 25 students escaped. We still have no idea where the students were taken.”

On his part, the CAN President, Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo A. Ayokunle, decried the development while describing it as proof of leadership failure by the President Muhammadu Buhari.

He advised the federal government to seek foreign assistance quickly, adding that kidnapping and abduction were thriving in the country “and it is almost becoming synonymous with the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.”

The association further noted in a statement, “that President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR has indeed lost grip on the leadership of this nation, especially his inability to provide security for citizens of this nation.”

CAN urged FG to ensure a safe return of the 140 innocent pupils.

“President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR should caution His Excellency, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai from talking more than acting,” the statement partly read.

Meanwhile, the presidency has expressed concern over attacks largely targeted at students in parts of the country.

According to the Special Adviser to the President, Garba Shehu, FG has mandated security agencies to “act swiftly” in the rescue mission.

“He called on state governments to ensure compliance with UN-supported Safe Schools Programme, which the administration had adopted.

“The President described kidnapping as cowardly and despicable, condemning it as an assault on affected families and the nation,” Shehu stated.
