Iran President Blames Surge In COVID-19 Infections On Wedding Ceremony, Warns Against Mass Gathering

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, says the recent spike in Covid-19 cases in the country is traceable to a wedding occasion.

He made this known in a press briefing on state television, Press TV, on Saturday.

“At one location, we witnessed a peak in this epidemic, the source of which was a wedding that caused problems for the people, health workers and losses to the economy and the country’s health system,” he said.

The president, citing the country’s health authorities, said that covid-19 won’t be removed completely soon, adding that health protocols would remain in place for a long time.

Rouhani urged Iranians to avoid mass gatherings for a while as the nation works towards curbing covid-19 spread.

“Happenings like wedding Ceremonies, funerals; we have to put this aside for a while until health authorities tell us we can put away those guidelines,” he said.
