Israel Retaliates, Strikes Syria Amid Escalating War With Hamas

The war between the Israel Defense Forces and Hamas militants in Gaza, Palestine, appears to be escalating further with retaliatory military attacks launched against the Syrian army Wednesday morning by the IDF.

Israel’s air force confirmed striking Syrian army infrastructure and mortar launchers early on Wednesday.

“Any squad you launch will be thwarted.,” the IDF tweeted.

The IDF said it was a retaliation following rocket launches from Syria into Israel, which landed in open fields.

Since Hamas militants invaded Southern Israel on October 7, the Israeli military has been carrying out offensives against Hamas, maintaining “it is ready for any eventuality.”

Since Israel’s military operation started, it has faced rocket fires from Lebanon’s Hezbollah, from Syria and from Yemen.

Some of the attacks had been launched towards Tel Aviv, Israel’s capital with sirens directing residents to take cover.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council met Tuesday on the ongoing war.

While several Western allies backed Israel, most of the Arab countries outrightly faulted Israel.

But the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, said Hamas massacre “didn’t happen in a vacuum” but was a fall out of Israel’s occupation of Gaza, a Palestine enclave.

However, Antonio Guterres said Israel’s occupation of Gaza was not a justification for Hamas to kill Israelis.

This did not go down well with Israel’s Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, who immediately called for the resignation of the UN Chief.

“These (Israeli) kids witnessed horror that cannot be described from Hamas. Mr. Secretary General: In what world do you live? Definitely this is not our world,” said Cohen at the UN meeting.

As of Tuesday, over 6,000 lives have been lost on both sides of Israel and Palestine.
