JUST IN: FG Outlines Guidelines For School Reopening

The federal government has made available some guidelines for schools to follow before reopening.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, disclosed this on Tuesday, at the 2020 Policy Meeting , convened by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in Abuja.

According to Nwajiuba, all schools must be ready to comply with the following public health advisory guidelines:

“Hand-washing facilities, Body temperature checks, Body disinfectants at all entering points to their major facilities including the gates, hostels, classes, offices, etc; decontamination of all premises, maintenance of the highest level of hygiene and ensure Social and Physical Distancing in class sizes and meeting spaces.”

Meanwhile, the minister maintained that school resumption should wait, pending when the Presidential Task Force gives the approval.

He also urged all school managements to get all the requirements in place before school reopens.

Recall that PTF had said that it was not yet safe for schools to reopen.

“While we Iook forward to easing the Iockdown which will ultimately lead to re-opening of our campuses, I urge all the Heads of Institutions not to wait till the announcement on reopening before putting in place all necessary measures in compliance with the protocols and advisories of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control,” he said.
