JUST IN: Kenya Elected Into UN Security Council

Kenya has been elected into the United Nations (UN) Security Council as a non permanent member for the space of two years.

She is occupying the only seat left in the council for an African country.

This was disclosed in a tweet on Thursday, by Tijjani Muhammad Bande, UN General Assembly President.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to: Kenya; for your election as non-permanent member of the
@UN Security Council,” he tweeted.

Kenya joins India, Ireland, Mexico and Norway as new members of the #UNSC Council for a 2-year term effective from 1 January 2021.

In a reaction, the Kenyan government said it was grateful for the opportunity to serve in such capacity.

“Kenya wishes to express its profound gratitude and appreciation for your valuable support for our Candidature for the Non-Permanent seat to the #UNSC for the term 2021-2022,” Kenya Mission to the UN tweeted.

The UNSC is a vital organ that determines the corporate decisions of the member states.
