Lai To PDP, ‘Spend More Time In Purgatory You’ll Be Forgiven’

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, has told the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that the only way it can be forgiven is if it returns the funds it looted.

The minister, in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, was reacting to the apology the PDP made to Nigerians to give it another chance to correct its mistakes of 16 years.

The PDP on Monday organised a public forum on contemporary politics and governance, where it received contributions from both the youths and the old.

PDP’s National Chairman, Uche Secondus, at the forum, admitted the party’s wrongs and apologised for its failures.

But in the statement, Mr Mohammed said the best way the PDP can show a change of attitude, is to return the money they stole from the country as it will make life more meaningful for Nigerians.

“The PDP presided over an unprecedented looting of the public treasury, perhaps the worst of its kind in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world,” the statement read.

“Therefore, the best evidence of penitence for such a party is not just to own up and apologise, but to also return the looted funds as anything short of that is mere deceit.”

“PDP, press the reset button. Stop sabotaging the work of this administration, which is packing the mess you left behind, through your reckless statements and unfounded allegations.

“Play responsible opposition politics. Put Nigeria’s interest over and above partisan interest. Temper your desperation to return to power. Spend quality time in the purgatory and you will be forgiven.”

Mohammed likened the PDP to a quote: “If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging”.
