LASTMA: Impounded vehicles Not Affected By Fire Outbreak

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has said all vehicles impounded for various traffic offences at its yard in Oshodi are safe.

The Assistant Director, Public Affairs, LASTMA, Olumide Filade, said this in a statement on Saturday.

He explained that the fire started at the Abandoned Vehicles Yard and not at LASTMA compound as earlier reported by the media.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency had confirmed that the inferno started inside LASTMA yard and 11 vehicles were affected but LASTMA had debunked this claim.

LASTMA explained further that seven vehicles that had been prepared for disposal were burnt and no serviceable vehicle was destroyed in the inferno.

The statement read, “The purported fire outbreak in LASTMA Yard started at the Abandoned Vehicle Yard and not on LASTMA property as reported.

“Seven dead beat vehicles that had been abandoned and already in preparedness for disposal for years by crushing or other means got burnt, while he added that the cause of fire is still unknown but that the Lagos State Fire Service responded promptly, put out the fire and mitigated further spread or damage to property.

“”Members of the public especially those whose vehicles were apprehended for traffic offences in the Oshodi Yard should not entertain any fear. LASTMA will continue to be responsible and responsive to maintaining the free flow of traffic in Lagos State.”
