Lionheart: Twitter Influencer Suffers Backlash On Pete Edochie

A self-acclaimed Twitter influencer has come under the hammer of Nigerians after taking to the micro-blogging platform to criticize veteran Nigerian actor, Pete Edochie, following the disqualification of ‘Lionheart’ movie by the Oscar Award Academy.

Lionheart, in which Edochie played the role of Genevieve Nnaji’s father, had been submitted as Nigeria’s first ever nomination for an Oscar award but was disqualified on Monday for having “too much” dialogue in English.

The movie which is currently streaming on Netflix is Nnaji’s directorial debut.

The twitter user, @Sugarbelly, had taken to the platform to call Edochie a ‘bad actor” for playing similar roles in movies he features in.

“Pete Edochie is a really bad actor,He’s been playing the same role his entire life,Acting isn’t quoting proverbs,” the twitter user said, adding, “But Nigerians live and die by seniority so the older he gets, the less anybody is able to point this glaring elephant in the room out.”

But some Nigerians took offense in the post and berated the poster for denigrating the veteran actor.

Lionheart was a “feelgood” movie and I loved it. It was largely free from typical Nollywood “loudness” and abrasive acting deemed as dramatic. The part I loved the most was when Pete Edochie spoke Hausa. That part won me over than all UpNorth (another great one) did for the North
