Man Kidnaps Sister, Demands N10m Ransom From Father

A 22-year-old undergraduate of the Modibbo Adama University, Adamawa, Abdulbasit Umar, has landed in police net for staging the kidnap of his 10-year-old sister, Amina Umar, and demanding N10 million ransom from his father.

Abdulbasit and two of his accomplices – Sadiq Sani and Abdullahi Habib – were said to have kidnapped his sister on her way to school.

The suspects later contacted Abdulbasit’s father and demanded the said sum for his sister’s release.

Spokesman of the State Police Command, DSP David Misal, paraded Abdulbasit alongside 12 others for kidnapping and armed robbery on Friday.

Misal said Abdulbasit and his collaborators were accosted and arrested by operatives of the State Investigative Bureau on their way to collect the ransom of N4 million that they later settled for.

They were arrested in Bali, Gassol Local Government Areas while others were arrested in other parts of Taraba State.

Abdulbasit, while being paraded, told reporters that he staged his sister’s kidnap to get money to travel overseas for studies. He said it was his first time engaging in such act.
