“The minimum wage shall be subject to periodic review every five years and the first review shall be effective from January 1, 2017 irrespective of the day the bill comes into force,” he said.

The Lagos state lawmaker, who is of the All Progressive Congress, APC, stated that salary is a major component of workers’ welfare, adding that the legislative arm needs to create a law to compel the Federal Government to effect a review.

The current minimum wage in Nigeria is N18, 000 per month. The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, is proposing N56,000.
