Although, the agenda of meeting was not revealed to journalists, the meeting might not be unconnected to the new minimum wage.

Recall that the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, proposed that the minimum wage for workers be increased from 18,000 to 30,000. The proposal was conveyed by the tripartite committee to the president for his assent despite resistance from the governors who claimed that they do not have the “ability” to pay the new amount.

Some of those present at the meeting include the governors of Lagos, Kebbi, Plateau, Bauchi, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Enugu and Kaduna states.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and Governor Abdulaziz Yari, the chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) are also at the meeting.
