Minister Of Finance Advises Nigeria On Recession

The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun has assured Nigerians that despite the recession facing the country, the economy will turn around in no distant time.

The minister, who gave the assurance in a series of tweets last night, urged Nigerians to invest in the country, adding that all hands should be on deck towards the diversification of our economy.

“We must invest in our capital and we must diversify our economy,” Adeosun said.

She further pleaded with Nigerians that the country will come out of recession as soon as possible, advising that the best approach against recession is to be disciplined in expenditures.

She said, “We can come out of recession as soon as possibly by sticking to the prescription, which is we must be disciplined in our expenditure.”

The minister also encouraged Nigerians that in no distant time, the economy will turn around. “I believe this economy will turn around in no distant time. I know people are concerned about the recession,” she said.

Recall that on Wednesday, the National Bureau of Statistics released the much-awaited Gross Domestic Product figures for the second quarter of 2016, with the GDP growth rate sliding further from -0.36 per cent in the first quarter to -2.06 per cent year-on-year.
