More Reactions Trail INEC’s Appointment Of Buhari’s Niece As Head Of Collation Centre

More Nigerians have criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its appointment of Amina Zakari, a niece to President Muhammadu Buhari, as the head of the presidential election collation committee.

The presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili said, “It is now quite obvious that the @inecnigeria Chairman is making decisions that cannot at all be INDEPENDENT. How in the world can @inecnigeria appoint Amina Zakari – niece of @MBuhari – as its Head of Collation Center? Are the INEC Chairman &President ready for the grave consequence?”

Similarly, an aide to Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri on his Twitter page, said even the Late Uganda President, Idi Amin would not make such appointment.

He further described the appointment as a ‘mockery of Buhari’s promise of a free and fair election.”

Omokri wrote: “How can INEC appoint Amina Zakari, President Buhari’s blood niece, as head of its collation centre for the 2019 elections?

“Even the late Idi Amin would not do this! This makes mockery of Buhari’s promise of a free and fair election.”

On its own part, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, while condemning the appointment, called on Zakari to resign the new position.

He said, “It’s like Rangers VS Kano Pillars and Kano Pillars is allowed to nominate a referee. It’s impossible for justice to be done. In a civilized clime Amina Zakari should have resigned.

“I expected the APC government having come to power through a free and fair election conducted by another president, they should not destroy the history.

“I call on Amina Zakari to honourably resign.

“Whatever happens to our democracy tomorrow, they (INEC and Federal Government) should hold themselves responsible.

“With continued membership of Mrs. Zakari in the commission, the corporate personality of INEC is seriously whittled down; making her head of collation committee is worse than anything anybody can imagine,” he said.
