National Pledge Now Mandatory At All Official Events — Tinubu Declares After Super Eagles Victory Over South Africa

President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive mandating the recitation of Nigeria’s national pledge after the national anthem at all official and public events.

This, according to Tinubu, is aimed at boosting unity and respect for the country’s national symbols.

The president gave the directive on Thursday at the groundbreaking ceremony of the “Renewed Hope City” housing project, stating, “The relaunch is about being committed to the values, greatness, and hope of our country.”

Drawing inspiration from Wednesday’s victory of Nigeria’s national football team against South Africa, Tinubu expressed confidence that the country can excel in all spheres if united.

“Before I left home this morning, I asked for a printout of the National Pledge, and we have to relaunch it again at this event. The relaunch is about being committed to the values, greatness, and hope of our country. It is our pledge to Nigeria, our country, to be faithful, loyal, and honest. To serve Nigeria with all your strength – we saw it on the field of play yesterday. We were all rejoicing. Everyone one of us loves victory. We love to win. When you are positive and you are hopeful, Nigeria is winning.

“We did not say it will be Eldorado and smooth all the way. But we are confident that this country will excel in all ramifications. We will defend our unity and uphold Nigeria’s glory in every way possible because we are Nigerians, and we have no other country,” said the president.

The Super Eagles recorded a 4-2 victory over South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match held at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire.
