The affected states have witnessed heightened killings from the herdsmen/farmers clashes.

The decision was taken on at Thursday’s NEC meeting presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, at the Council Chamber, Aso Rock, Abuja.

The NEC comprises state governors and relevant ministries of government and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Briefing state house correspondents after the meeting, Dave Umahi, Ebonyi State governor, said the five selected states are expected to make land available for ranches.

He explained that with ranching, would improve the well-being of the cattles as well, give herdsmen and their families access to good schools and medical facilities.

On his part, Audu Ogbeh, minister of agriculture, said the federal government may no longer be able to keep to the ECOWAS practice on free movement of persons.
