‘New SGF Is Babachir Lawal’s Cousin’

In what could be described as a mind-blowing revelation, Dr Junaid Muhammed, House of Representatives member, says the newly appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, is a first cousin to Babachir Lawal.

Mustapha was on Monday appointed as the new SGF by President Muhammadu Buhari following the sack of Babachir Lawal, who was found guilty of fraud to the tune of N200 million.

Mustapha until his appointment was the Managing Director of National Inland Water Ways Authority (NIWA).

Speaking to the Punch on Monday, Junaid said: “Before you begin to celebrate the appointment of Boss Mustapha as the new SGF, do you know that he is in fact, Babachir Lawal’s first cousin? This is a continuation of the cronyism and nepotism the Buhari-led administration has become infamous for.”

As part of the development, President Buhari also fired the former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ambassador Ayo Oke.

Meanwhile, the All Progressive Congress described the step taken by the President as timely, saying the party has been vindicated.

“Few days ago, when the President directed the dismissal of Abdulrasheed Maina, some people said that was right but what about the suspended SGF, BD Lawal? But we as a party said look, the President is the only person who has all the information. All of us can only have one side of the story or the other,” APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said.

“But the President by the virtue of the position he occupies is the only one who has all the information and he would do what is necessary at the right time, now we have been vindicated and it shows that the President has not in any way waived his commitment not to tolerate corruption at any level no matter who is involved,” he added.
