Nigeria Conducts 32,942 Covid-19 Tests In 4months

The Nigerian Centre For Disease Control has conducted a total of 32,942 Coronavirus tests since 27 February, 2020, when the country confirmed its first case till date.

This is according to the Covid19 situation report released on Saturday.

According to the report, the centre conducted a total of 1240 on Friday.

69% (3763) of the total tested were male while female accounted for 31%(1,682) of the number.

Meanwhile the federal government plans to repurpose the tuberculosis GeneXpert machines already deployed in all the states and the Federal Capital Territory [FCT] for Coronavirus testing.

The centre said this would help increase weekly testing for the virus by 9,100.

The NCDC explained that the country had deployed 407 GeneXpert instruments in 399 health facilities across the country, for use as first-line testing for TB diagnosis.

The centre further said with the GeneXpert machines, each of which could test 24 samples daily, it is targeting 1,300 tests per day with ability to return test results same day.
