Nigerians React As UAE Jails Six Boko Haram Sponsors

Reactions have greeted reports of the conviction of six Nigerians by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for allegedly sponsoring Boko Haram terrorists.

Two of the suspects were said to have been sentenced to life imprisonment, while four others were reportedly handed 10-year imprisonment each. One of the suspects is reportedly a Nigerian government official.

The suspects allegedly made cash transfers totaling $782,000 (N296,378,000) to Boko Haram insurgents between 2015 and 2016, according court papers seen by Daily Trust.

The names of the two suspects sentenced to life imprisonment were given as Surajo Abubakar Muhammad and Saleh Yusuf Adamu, while those handed 10-year jail terms were Ibrahim Ali Alhassan, AbdurRahman Ado Musa, Bashir Ali Yusuf and Muhammad Ibrahim Isa.

The report has caused outrage on social media, as some Nigerians took to Twitter to slam the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for failing to trace and intercept the transactions.

The twitter users specifically criticized CBN for being swift to block accounts of EndSARS promoters, but failing to intercept the alleged cash transfers to Boko Haram insurgents. Below are some of the reactions:
