Nnamdi Kanu Storms Ebonyi With IPOB Followers Over Gov. Umahi’s Anti Biafra Comment

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu on Monday stormed Abakiliki, the Ebonyi State capital with his followers, causing complete shutdown of activities.

He was welcomed by thousands of pro-Biafra supporters, who reportedly put economic activities in the state to a stand-still.

THE WHISTLER learnt that markets, businesses and even banks were closed down following Kanu’s visit.

The IPOB leader was seen moving around major streets of Abakaliki with flocks of his followers, at a point protesting at the Ebonyi State police command headquarters gate.

Kanu’s visit may not be unconnected with remarks credited to the Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, who had expressed his disapproval of activities of the IPOB leader.

“When the issue of Biafra or restructuring is discussed, my heart jumps because Ebonyi is not ripe for any. Ask yourself, what is it that we are producing? We totally depend on the federal government for allocation. Investors are not coming into the state and our IGR is nothing to write home about, because the idea of an investor is, supposing the allocation that comes from the centre stops, how do I get back my money?” Mr. Umahi said in June.

A source who confirmed Kanu’s visit said, “Mazi kanu never wanted to go to Ebonyi state but due to Governor Umahi’s threat he decided to go there.
“You know, the governor warned him not to join Ebonyi in ‘his Biafra’ map, Mazi went there to preach the Biafra gospel to the people in the governor’s village,” the source added.

Radio Biafra accused the state government of working with security agencies to frustrate the IPOB leader.

“The Nigerian government and her military in collaboration with the Ebonyi State government, have stationed combined security forces all over the state because of the proposed visit of the leader of Indigenous People Of Biafra Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to Ebonyi State.

“We are putting the world on notice should anything happen to our leader the Nigerian government would be held responsible,” the post read.
