Nnamdi Kanu’s ‘Treason’ Trial Begins Thursday

The outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) will again grab the headlines as the treason trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the group, begins in court on Thursday.

He last appeared in court in 2017 when he was granted bail on health grounds and has since left Nigeria after the military reportedly invaded his home in Afara-Ukwu, Abia State, in September 2017.

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja subsequently revoked his bail on March 28, 2019, owing to his continuous absence and ordered that his trial will continue without his presence.

Tomorrow, Thursday, the trial will resume without Kanu being present in court.

Both the prosecution team in the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Kanu’s counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, have been served with copies of the hearing notice.

The court will be hearing the testimonies of prosecution witnesses against the IPOB leader.
