The Nigeria Union of Journalists has expressed its sadness over the death of yet another veteran journalist, Adinoyi Ojo Onukaba.

Onukaba was allegedly killed by armed robbers along Akure road, Ondo State, on his way back from the 80th birthday celebrations of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State last Monday.

In a statement by Shuaibu Usman Leman, National Secretary of the NUJ, the union “extends its condolences to his immediate family, the journalism family and his political associates for this great loss.

“Dr Onukaba was one time Managing Director of Daily Times and Senior Special Adviser in the Presidency.

“This sad event has yet again deprived Nigeria of one of its illustrious journalists and we pray to God to grant the deceased eternal rest.

Leman described the late journalist as “a rare gem, an impeccable character and role model who stood and fought for the profession of journalism.

“Our consolation was that he fought a good fight, was a well disciplined and thorough professional who struggled to excel in all his endeavours.

“As a committed professional he was warm, friendly and a believer in compliance with the ethics of the profession. He will be missed by all.”
