NYSC: 36 Corps Members Absconded, 72 Get Extension In Kano

Thirty-six members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Kano State absconded from the compulsory national service while 72 would have their service extended for various reasons.

The state coordinator, NYSC, Aisha Tata Mohammed, said the state also lost a corps member named Master Sirajo Lawal out of the 2,494 members who did their passing out on Thursday.

She disclosed that 36 members absconded from service, while 72 members would have their service year extended by two weeks to five months or outright repeat of service.

The late corps member was serving at Fagge Local Government Secretariat before his death.

Mohammed commended the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for his unflinching support to the NYSC and urged the government not to relent.

Governor Ganduje, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Muhammed Garba, said the NYSC represented the “collective dreams of national unity, peace and development.”

According to him, the government of Kano state vigorously embarked on some critical priority projects such as extension of basic infrastructures, free and compulsory basic education alongside positive expansion of tertiary education and agriculture to avail the citizens and visitors full opportunities for self -fulfilment.

“While I assure the NYSC management that our government would continue to be committed to welfare provisions and security of corps members in Kano state, I also urged all corps members to contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities and the nation at large wherever they may find themselves.”
