Ogun Technical Education Model For Other States – NBTE
The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Idris Bugaje, has praised the Ogun State government’s proactive approach to technical education, stating it serves as a model for other states to emulate.
Bugaje disclosed this at the opening ceremony of the Critique and Validation Workshop for six National Occupational Standards and the final critique for five National Technical Certificates held in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Bugaje lauded Ogun State for prioritising technical education to create jobs, break the poverty cycle, and expand economic prosperity.
He noted the state’s efforts align with NBTE’s core mandates to empower Nigerians with technical skills and vocational training.
According to a statement by Ogun State Economic Transformation Project’s Communication Officer, Mrs. Simbo Olayinka, Bugaje commended Ogun State for conducting industry needs assessments across technical colleges with a focus on priority areas under the World Bank-assisted Ogun State Economic Transformation Project(OGSTEP).

“The state’s proactive approach serves as a model for others to emulate and aligns with the core mandates of the NBTE to empower Nigerians with technical skills and vocational training that could make them stand on their own, be employers of labour and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the country’s economy,” the statement said.
Speaking at the five-day event, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Moriamo Oloko, said Ogun State was proud to host the initiative, contributing to the design and refinement of National Technical Certificates and National Occupational Standards.
The OGSTEP Project Coordinator, Mrs. Mosunmola Owo-Odusi, also explained that the initiative aligns with the state’s vision to revamp technical and vocational education to meet evolving industry needs.
OGSTEP, Owo-Odusi said has rehabilitated 158 buildings in technical colleges and is equipping workshops and laboratories.
Also speaking, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Mrs. Mojisola Adenowo, revealed new trades introduced into technical colleges’ curriculum like Construction/Ornamental Craft and Adire Making Craft.

Adenowo also acknowledged OGSTEP’s support in capacity building, infrastructure, and equipment supply.
