Ondo Election: IGP Imposes Curfew On Vehicular Movements To Prevent ‘Circulation Of Arms And Drugs’

In a bid to ensure adequate security of public spaces, the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement ahead of the Ondo governorship election

The IGP made this known via a post on his Twitter handle on Friday, saying the restriction would take effect from 11:59 pm on Friday to 6 pm on Saturday.

The order is part of efforts by the Force to ensure effective coordination of public order and safety during the gubernatorial election.

Adamu said, among other things, the restriction order is aimed at preventing “political actors and trouble makers” from freely engaging in unpatriotic acts.

Such acts according to Adamu include “the circulation and use of illicit arms and hard drugs, movement of political thugs from contiguous States to Ondo State and disruption of the electoral processes, etc – which are inimical to the dictates of the electoral laws”.

The IGP called on residents of the state to go out enmass on the day of the election and exercise their franchise while assuring that adequate security has been put in place for the election.

Adamu also enjoined the citizens to bear any inconveniences arising from the restriction order, noting that the order is part of necessary sacrifices the people must make to nurture and sustain democracy in the country.

He, however, warned that anybody who engages in snatching of ballot boxes, vote-buying, vote-selling, hate speeches, and any other act capable of compromising the integrity of the electoral process will be brought to book.
