There is outrage on social media over a video which showed one of the men who handled the corpse of the late Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, disposing his protective gear unprofessionally in the public.

Kyari, who died from complications related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday, was buried at the Gudu Cemetery in Abuja on Saturday.

In the viral video, the man was seen bedside a car pulling off the personal protective equipment (PPE) he wore to the burial and dumping it in the open.

The video drew criticisms against the federal government, prompting the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to mobilize its Covid-19 task force to remove the PPE and disinfect the area.

The FCTA, in a statement by the acting Secretary Human and Health Services, Mohammed Kawu, said “the PPE left over by the has been professionally evacuated and the entire cemetery has been decontaminated.”

“All the individuals, including the man in question that participated in the burial and were not properly kitted have been identified and are being isolated

“Necessary tests will be conducted on all of them to determine their level of exposure and ensure that they do not infect other people.”

Kawu added that the FCTA had also taken steps to ensure that all future burials of victims of COVID-19 are conducted in line with protocols established by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
