Over-Speeding Truck Kills Woman In Anambra

A yet-to-be-identified middle-aged woman was on Friday killed in a fatal road traffic crash that occurred at Lake, opposite Oando filling station by 1000 Blocks, before Boromeo roundabout, Onitsha, in Anambra State.

An eyewitness said the truck, with registration number AGB338YV, knocked down the woman when she was walking along the road. Three persons, comprising two male adults and one female adult, were involved in the crash. The female adult was rushed to Toronto Hospital by the FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka outpost. She was later confirmed dead by the medical personnel on duty.

The sector public education officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command, SRC Florence N Edor, confirmed the accident to THE WHISTLER. She disclosed that the corpse had been deposited at the hospital morgue, adding that the driver was apprehended and handed over to the Nigeria Police.

Meanwhile, the sector commander, FRSC, Anambra State, Mr Andrew A Kumapayi, has warned motorists to desist from over-speeding, especially in built-up areas. He advised that recommended speed limit of 50km/hrs be applied in built-up areas to guide against loss of control.

Mr Kumapayi further urged pedestrians to be watchful while walking along the road, and advised them to always walk on the left side of the roads facing oncoming vehicles to guard against being knocked down by careless drivers.
