Plateau By-Election: PDP Appoints Five-Member Screening Committee

Ahead of the forthcoming Plateau-South Senatorial District by-election, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed a five-member screening committee for the poll.

The committee is chaired by Ibrahim Umar, according to the party’s National Organising Secretary, Austin Akobundu, who disclosed the names of the members on Monday.

THE WHISTLER recalls that the senatorial seat became vacant due to the demise of  the former occupant, Ignatius Longjan.

Longjan died in February.

Akobunde listed other members of the committee to include Charity A. Erhire, Adamu Etsu Mohammed Wonigi, Abraham Omachoko and Ibrahim Garba as Secretary.

According to him, the committee is mandated to screen all aspirants for the upcoming election.

The inauguration of the members is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, August 25, at the PDP state secretariat, Jos, Plateau by 10:00am.

Meanwhile, a total of five aspirants are jostling for the ticket of the PDP for the election, according to the state Chairman of the party, Yakubu Chocho.

Chocho said the five candidates were credible individuals that had served humanity with distinction in various capacities.

The candidates are former speakers of the State House of Assembly, George Daika, and Mark Dapyenglong. The others are Jafaru Damulak, Philip Nentyep and Chrisantus Dawap.
