Police Arrest Robbery Suspect, Child Trafficking Syndicate In Anambra

Police detectives attached to the Anambra State Command’s Rapid Response Squad, Thursday, arrested one Chidi Anieke, 30, of Mbu town in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State. The suspect was arrested at Awada, and was said to have, on 26/1/2021 at about 9pm, allegedly snatched a Toyota Corolla car from the owner at Independence Layout, Enugu. The suspect then drove the car to his hideout at Awada where he was subsequently arrested.

Exhibits recovered in his possession, according to police sources, include the snatched car with registration number ENU 269 PH; one locally made double barrel shot gun and seven live cartridges.

THE WHISTLER reports that the command’s Rapid Response Squad was unveiled on 12/11/2020 by Governor Willie Obiano with the aim of responding to distress calls on heinous crimes, and patrolling flashpoints in the state to ensure safety and security in the state.

In another development, ten suspects, including five pregnant women, were yesterday arrested by police operatives attached to the SIB and Area Command, Oraifite. The operation was led by the area commander, ACP Afolabi Wilfred. The operatives raided the house of one Melvina Uju Uba, ‘f’, located opposite Nnamdi Azikiwe Orthopedic Teaching Hospital, Oba, in Idemili South LGA of the state.

The operation led to the arrest of Edna Nnadi, ‘f’, 37; Ujunwa Nweke, ‘f’, 25; Izuchukwu Uba, ‘f’, 24; Chinaza Ibeh, ‘f’, 19; Peace Okon Effiong, ‘f’, 25; Gift Collins, ‘f’, 20; Chimkaso Kingsley, ‘f’, 25; Happiness Monday, ‘f’, 18; Chioma Okonkwo, ‘f’, 25, and, Uchechukwu Nwankwo, ‘f’, 18.

According to the state police PPRO, CSP Haruna Mohammed, “The place was raided following credible information that teenage girls were being impregnated and the babies sold out by human traffickers. During the operations, five newly born babies and three other children were rescued.

“The rescued children will be handed over to the state Ministry of Social Welfare, Children and Women’s Affairs for proper care, while effort is being intensified to apprehend other accomplices in order to bring them to justice.”
