Police Confirm Assassination Of Anambra Monarch

The police command, Anambra State, Friday, confirmed the killing of Igwe Alex Edozieuno, a former traditional ruler of Nkpunado community, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

The traditional ruler was killed alongside his driver, identified as Chukwuemeka. The killing of both first appeared in a gory graphic video that has been in circulation. The video showed both men being attacked and their subsequent remains laid by a bush side.

The incident allegedly took place at Otuocha in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased traditional ruler was allegedly deposed last year because he was on the entourage of business mogul Chief Arthur Eze, who visited President Muhammadu Buhari without the authorization of Gov Willie Obiano.

The public relations officer of the state police command, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident. He added that the state police commissioner, Mr Tony Olofu, had ordered investigations into the matter.

According to him, “The commissioner of police, Anambra State Command, Tony Olofu, has led a team of police operatives to the scene of murder incident along Ikem Ivife village by Ezu bridge, Otuocha, Anambra East.

“He described the incident as man’s inhumanity to man and ordered immediate investigation into the incident.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victims, one Mr Alex Edozieuno, 62-yrs-old, a former traditional ruler of Nkpunado community, Anambra East LGA, and his driver, Chukwuemeka, were attacked by suspected gunmen by 10am along Ezu bridge, Otuocha.

“The exhibits recovered from the scene include one Lexus 470 with plate reg No Aguleri-1, belonging to the victim and some expended ammunition.

“Meanwhile, the bodies have been deposited at a mortuary. Further development shall be communicated.”
