Police Rescue Five Abducted Victims Along Bonny River

The Nigeria Police Force on Thursday, said it has rescued the five victims of the recent kidnap incident along the Bonny River and also arrested one of the suspected kidnappers while others were on the run.

Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Union, Bonny unit, Henry Jumbo had, in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt raised an alarm about the kidnapped incident on Tuesday.

He said five out of 18 passengers were whisked away by the heavily armed men who attacked a passenger boat.

But the officer-in-charge of the Marine Police, Bonny, Solomon Adeniyi, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed their release.

“Yes, some of the suspected kidnappers were apprehended in Bodo Town and the victims were freed.”

Chairman of the Bodo Unit of the Bonny Marine Transporters, Tamunotonye Jumbo also corroborated the disclosure by the Police.

“Yes, the Police have arrested one of the suspected kidnappers. Others were still on the run but Police have vowed to go after them.

“The victims were rescued, though it’s still remaining one person out of the ten that were kidnapped.”

He explained further that one of the kidnap suspects was apprehended by the Police in Bodo Town and was already helping the Police in its investigation of the incident.
