Probe Police, LG’s Roles In Burial Of OAU Student, Adedoyin’s Lawyer Tells CP

A lawyer, Mr Abiodun Williams, who is the counsel for the Chairman of Hilton Hotel and Resorts, Chief Ramon Adegoke has called on the Osun State Police Command to investigate a rumour that the corpse of the OAU Master’s Student, Timothy Adegoke, was buried by the workers of Ife Central Local Government Area.

The lawyer made this appeal to the police in a petition written to the Commissioner of Police in the state and dated November 26. A copy of which was made available to journalists on Saturday night.

The counsel said there was a rumour that some persons found the corpse of Adegoke where it was allegedly dumped and called the attention of those who have businesses around the area to it.

The artisans and others, he said, went and reported their strange discovery to the police and the local government.

He said the Public Health Department in the council reportedly alerted the police and the police granted them the approval to bury the corpse

The suspects arrested in connection with the death of the student were reported to have said the Managing Director of the Hotel, Raheem Adedotun, supervised the evacuation of the corpse from the hotel and the dumping of the same in the bush.

The lawyer to Adedoyin who is in police detention said the latest discovery, if found to be true, would further assist pathologists to unravel the cause of death of the student.

The petition read, ” You will recall that some of the suspects in your custody allegedly confessed to dumping the corpse of late Mr. Timothy Adegoke in the bush, they did not admit to burying him.

“You will equally recall that during the interview you granted to Rave 97.1 FM Radio on 22nd day of November, 2021 there it was insinuated that some of the suspects confessed to have buried the corpse in the bush at about 2 km to the hotel at somewhere along Ede Road, Ile-Ife, Osun State. However, there is now a strong rumour, peddled by some people to the effect that that position may not be correct after all.

“From the information flying around in Ile-Ife, there is a strong suggestion that contrary to the claim as aforesaid, it was the officials of the Department of Public Health, Ife Central Local Government, Ile-Ife that buried the deceased having received clearance from the officers of the Nigerian Police of one of the Divisions in Ile-Ife. ..

“We could not establish which of the Divisions in Ile-Ife that gave the clearance. However, we are of the view that, if the information is correct, discreet and diligent investigations will establish it.

“If it is established that officers of the Public Health Department of Ife Central Local Government were the ones that actually buried the corpse of Mr. Timothy Adegoke, it may go a long way to assist the pathologists in their quests to unravel the circumstances that led to the unfortunate death of the young man and the manner his corpse was handled.

“If nothing is achieved by such important piece of information, it would, at least stop the question: “why did those that buried the corpse of Mr. Timothy Adegoke keep silent all this while and allow an innocent man to be languishing in detention?”

The Chairman of Ife Central Local Government Area, Mr Olayera Elugbaju, when contacted said he could not confirm whether workers of the council buried the corpse.

“No staff of the secretariat was arrested by the police. I can not confirm to you now that our staff buried the corpse of Adegoke.

“I can only do that when I see the file they recorded corpses that the local government had buried in the time past.”
