PSG Wraps Up French Title In Style

Paris Saint-Germain, on Sunday, secured a fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title in emphatic style, by annihilating last-place Troyes 9-0.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s sensational nine-minute hat-trick at the start of the second half followed goals from Edinson Cavani, Javier Pastore and Adrien Rabiot.

PSG has lost just once this season, away to Lyon last month, and leads second-place Monaco by 25 points.

Laurent Blanc’s side moved up to 77 points, winning the league with eight games still to play.

“From the first game we said we would set a pace that others would find hard to keep up with and no teams could,” PSG coach Laurent Blanc said.

“It’s amazing to win the title after 30 games.

“We can celebrate for the next two days, and I think I will celebrate with them,” he said.

“But then we have to get back to work.”

The championship is the sixth in the club’s history and the fastest-ever Ligue 1 victory, breaking the record set by Gerard Houllier’s Olympique Lyonnais in 2007, who won the title after 33 matches.

Speaking after the game, Ibrahimovic, who is PSG’s all-time leading scorer with 141 goals, including 102 in the league, said he is likely to leave the French champions in the summer.

“What happens next year, I don’t know. But for the moment I’m not here,” the 34-year-old television channel beIN Sports, before jokingly adding.”I don’t believe they can change the Eiffel (Tower) for my statue. But if they can I will stay here, I promise you.”

The Ligue 1 champions, will now set their sights on an historic quadruple, with their hopes in the Champions League, Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue still alive after a league campaign that has seen them win 24, draw five and lose just one of their 30 games.
