Resign Now, FG Tells Onnoghen As CJN Shuns CCT Trial Again

Following the absence of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen from court today, the federal government has demanded the resignation of the CJN.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, today, resumed hearing of a case of alleged false asset declaration levelled against him.

The federal government prosecutor, Aliu Umar, said on Tuesday that the government wants the judge out of office.

According to him, Onnoghen had been written, and he wondered whether he had received it or not.

A senior lawyer leading a team of over 50 defence counsels for Onnoghen, Wole Olanipekun, said the judge was absent because of the cases that were instituted against the tribunal’s proceeding.

Recall that a federal high court, last week, ordered that Onnoghen’s trial be suspended, but government supporters have opposed the order, stating that the tribunal has parallel powers as federal high courts.
