Service Chiefs Resigned – Buhari

Contrary to reports that the four service chiefs had been sacked, President Muhammadu Buhari has said they resigned.

In a tweet he sent out shortly after the news broke, the President said he had accepted their resignation, giving the impression that they were not relieved of the positions.

“I have accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs, and their retirement from service. I thank them all for their overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to Nigeria, and wish them well in their future endeavours,” Buhari tweeted.

The President also announced a replacement for the retiring officers.

  1. Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff
  2. Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff
  3. Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff
  4. Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff.

Recall that the President during the last Armed Forces Reembrace Day promised to end insecurity this year.
