States’ IGR Drops By 25.12% In Third Quarter Of 2019 – NBS

A new report of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has shown that economic activities of states slowed down in the third quarter of 2019 as the combined Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the states dropped to N293.80 billion.

This was disclosed in the ‘IGR at State Level for third quarter (Q3) of 2019’ which was published on Thursday by the Nigerian statistics body.

According to the agency, the 36 states and the federal capital territory realized an increased IGR of N986.29 billion in 9 months compared to the N692.49 billion recorded in the first half (H1) of 2019.

A breakdown of the IGR of the 36 states and the FCT in Q3 2019 shows a decreased revenue of  N293.80 from N392.38 in Q2 2019, depicting a negative growth of 25.12% on quarterly bases.

The NBS further noted that seven of the 36 states of the country witnessed a growth in revenue generation while the other 29 states and the FCT witnessed decline in revenue generation in the period under study.

Lagos state led the list of IGR by states as it realised N297.9 billion, with Rivers state following closely with IGR of N107.03 in the first three quarters of 2019.

Similarly, Yobe state led the list of  low IGR states with N3.343 billion, while Gombe and Taraba states followed with N4.240 billion and N4.722 billion respectively.

The NBS however noted that first quarter and second quarter IGR figures of Ebonyi state has been revised to N1.634.09 billion for (Q1) and N2,281.7 billion for (Q2).
