Arsenal are set to give midfielder Alex Iwobi an improved contract following his impressive performances in recent weeks.

The 19-year-old, who signed a new contract last October to stay with the Gunners until 2019, and is worth less than £1,000 a week, is set to earn an enhanced £10,000-a-week.

The Nigerian, is rated as a huge prospect and looks set to have a bright future at the club with this new deal.

He marked his first Premier League start with a goal in Saturday’s 2-0 victory against Everton, and exhibited dazzling displays in Arsenal’s recent defeat to Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

The West African’s performances have led to a growing list of plaudits, recently Arsenal legend Thierry Henry expressed his admiration for the teenager.

“The most impressive thing about this young man is his attitude. That’s what sets him apart,” Henry said.

“Iwobi plays with a smile on his face, he’s never late for training and he is a conscientious young man. You might expect that to be given for any young footballer but sadly that’s not the case in the modern game.

“That’s why he deserves everything he’s got this past week.”

His performance against the Everton seemingly captured the attention of the English FA, who were understood to sway the youngster from committing his international future to Nigeria.

He represented the Three Lions at junior level, and still has the option of playing for the senior team, unless he features in one of the Super Eagles’ double header clash against Egypt in the 2017 African Nations Cup Qualifiers this week.
