Buhari’s Health Not As Bad As Yar’Adua’s Case – Garba Shehu

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari has said his principal’s health condition is not as dreadful as the case of late president Umaru Yar’Adua.

Shehu, who was reacting to an article by Nigerian historian, Max Siollun, titled “The Gentleman’s Agreement that Could Break Apart Nigeria,” said it was misleading for the writer to suggest the country could be embroiled in major political and constitutional crisis over Buhari’s absence.

Recall President Buhari has been in London for medical consultations for some time now and currently has no specific date of return to the country.

But the presidential aide, in his reaction, further described the article as “needlessly sensational and exaggerated speculations by conspiracy theorists”.

Shehu explained that against the Yar’Adua situation, President Buhari has duly complied with the constitutional requirements by handing over to Acting President Yemi osinbajo before embarking on his medical trip.

“While Yar’Adua was too severely ill to transmit a letter formally to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, President Buhari is not in such medical state, and therefore, the country is not currently facing any complications on account of his absence,” he said.

Shehu said none of the Yar’Adua/Jonathan circumstances “prevail in Nigeria on account of President Buhari’s absence for medical treatment”.

“Therefore, any suggestions of uncertainty or constitutional crisis are imaginary and exaggerated,” he added.
