The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has charged President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State to stand up to their responsibilities of protecting lives and property by ending the killings of Christians in Southern Kaduna by Fulani Herdsmen.

THE WHISTLER recalls that Governor El-Rufai, in a somewhat hypocritical message to the media, had vowed Justice against the perpetrators of the Christmas Eve killing in Goska, Jema’a Local Government Area of the state.

The Sultan, in his call to both the Federal and the Kaduna State governments, expressed sadness over the incessant killings, adding that the committers of the evil must be brought to book.

The monarch further noted that Islam as a religion forbids the unjust taking away of human lives except for “a just course.”

“The NSCIA denounces these events in its entirety particularly because they run contrary to fundamental Islamic law which ordains human life to be sacred and strongly forbids its unlawful destruction except for a just course,” Abubakar said in a statement by the NSCIA’s Director of Administration, Christian Isa Okonkwo

“The NSCIA would like the Federal and Kaduna State governments to go a step further by proffering lasting solutions to these recurrent acts of hatefulness and savagery in Southern Kaduna.

“We also wish to call on the Federal government to objectively investigate the matter and prosecute whoever that is found guilty irrespective of the person’s tribe, creed and/or social status.”
