Fayose Can Now Commit Suicide As Buhari Returns – MURIC

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State to fulfill his alleged pledge to commit suicide if President Muhammadu Buhari returns to the country alive.

“I will commit suicide if Buhari comes back alive,” a so-called Buhari Media Centre had purported Governor Fayose as saying.

The governor’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, had almost immediately refuted the report when it made the rounds on social media in July.

“Kindly disregard this statement as it did not emanate from Gov Fayose.

“It is their usual way of shifting the people’s attention from the real question Nigerians are asking as to the whereabouts of the President.

“At no time was such statement made by the governor,” Olayinka had said.

However, MURIC in a statement by its Director, Prof Ishaq Akintola on Saturday, called out Governor Fayose to proceed with his purported quest to commit suicide.

“It is quite germane at this juncture to remind Nigerians that Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State allegedly promised to commit suicide if Buhari returns to Nigeria alive.

“Well, the president is back and Nigerians owe it a duty to ask whether or not Fayose would redeem his pledge. Is Fayose a man of his words? Will Fayose commit suicide? Will he be man enough to do just that?

“Fayose is an interesting study in political fanaticism and executive exuberance. The garrulous self-confessed danfo conductor just pushed his luck too far this time around. We are constrained to ask, “Where is Fayose’s integrity?” Akintola queried.

The WHISTLER recalls that MURIC had in April this year, threatened to make life unbearable for Fayose following alleged plans by the governor to demolish some mosques in Ekiti.

“He is invariably targeting Muslims in Ekiti State by attempting to demolish those mosques but he has forgotten that anyone who attacks a mosque anywhere in Nigeria has courted the wrath of Nigerian Muslims.

“Ekiti State governor is waging war against Islam. Fayose has murdered sleep and he shall sleep no more.”

“Muslims may be left with no option than to make Ekiti ungovernable for Fayose if he goes ahead to demolish those mosques.

“Freedom of worship is enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution and civil disobedience is the inalienable right of a persecuted people. Those who make it impossible for us to worship freely are guilty of a crime. Every patriotic citizen has the obligation to disobey illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional orders. We will resist this oppression if the system will do nothing about it,” the rights group had said.
